A Tampere-based clothing startup aims for the world, backed by angel investors

Wølmark Finland Oy has raised over €100,000 in funding for growth and internationalisation by introducing alpaca wool to camping clothing. The company manufactures a high-quality collection of camping clothing that combines timeless design, sustainability and sustainable production. The products are an attractive option for responsible hikers and active outdoor enthusiasts in demanding conditions around the world.

Wølmark Finland, which saw the light of day in April 2020, was born from the idea of founder Teemu Pinomäki to combine top-quality alpaca wool and Finnish design. The cornerstones of the company were inspired by Finnish nature and hiking, as the properties of alpaca wool provide an excellent basis for the design and manufacture of hiking clothing.

Alapaca fiber, natures own super fiber

Alpaca wool is an unparalleled material with many excellent properties. Alpaca has evolved over thousands of years in the Andes under extreme conditions with widely varying temperatures. The harsh mountain conditions have created the perfect wool, with thermal insulation and moisture wicking properties far superior to other wools thanks to its hollow fibre structure.

Wølmark Finland Oy's aim is to make alpaca wool part of the hiker's and active outdoorsman's permanent clothing. So far, alpaca wool dominates as the natural material for outdoor and camping clothing. The company's products have now gained a foothold in Finland and have received very positive, even praising, feedback from customers.

Conquering international markets with the help of new investors

The ISPO and Deloitte Outdoor Consumer Report 2021 shows how European consumers are aware of the sustainability criteria for outdoor products and are willing to pay a higher price for responsible and sustainable products. Up to 47% of respondents said that environmental friendliness is an important criterion for them when buying leisure products.

About 47% of consumers said that they would be willing to pay a higher price for their products. Now Wølmark Finland Oy aims to turn its attention to international markets. The company's unique combination of alpaca wool, Finnish design and high-quality, sustainable production provides an excellent starting point for meeting European consumer demands.

To support its internationalisation, the company has received a capital injection from a number of angel investors in Tampere. One of the investors is Petri Tiitola, who has solid experience in building growth companies in the retail sector.
